Here is the honest split. In offline career and management, your progress and currency sit on your own device, so unlimited energy and extra coins work as expected and there is nothing for a server to check.

Online is a different setup. First Touch runs competitions, events and leaderboards on its own servers, and those keep your balance and progress server-side. Modified coins or energy may not count there, and a flagged account can be reset or banned. So for anything online, play on a clean, unmodified client. Keep the mod for your solo career.
